Purpose: The purpose of this award is to honor students at all grade levels who have succeeded, against all odds, beyond expectations or simply won the hearts of the administrators and other educators who helped them achieve their goals. Nominees should be students who have made a special effort to succeed and have overcome obstacles such as:
Returning to school
Leaving a gang
Improving their attendance
Changing their attitude
Overcoming the physical and mental barriers
They should also be active in:
After school programs
Community service
Student conflict resolution
Cross-age tutoring
Peer mediation
Peer tutoring
Last year, (one of our very own an ABC student won the statewide contest. It would be great to make it two years in a row. Here is the process/instructions/deadlines for this competition:
Download the nomination form.
Assemble a 3 - 4 person team from your staff.
Pick one student per school site.
This student should be an individual who has overcome obstacles and adversity, and is succeeding in school.
Fill out the nomination form and answer the two questions stated on the form (Limit of one page response for each question).
Email nomination form and responses to me by the end of the workday on December, 2011.
